Mockascene – Digital Book Prototyping with Blender3D Bastian Hansl Call for Creatives

The thesis includes the design and implementation of "Mockascene" - an add-on for the 3D software Blender. With this, both laypersons and professional 3D users can create photo-realistic mock-ups and animations of their print products.

The work deals with the optimization of usability in a closed system with restricted design tools. How do you create clear structure and intuitive user guidance without having the possibility to affect the
appearance in the form of typography, shape and colors? How and, above all, how far do you reduce a
complex user interface for a specific tasks? It further explores the possibilities of Physically Based
Rendering and digital photorealism. How do surfaces, materials, finishes and movement behave related to books in the real world and how could this behavior be simulated on the screen?
