Please Wait To Be Seated

Please Wait To Be Seated is a stool that is designed without the use of generic body norms. In product design, uninclusive guiding principles and body dimensions provide the foundations for almost all industrial manufacturing processes of haptic products. In Please Wait To Be Seated, existing design methods are replaced by an open, inclusive and gender-sensitive design process. Using digital motion capture and 3D scanning, individual body shapes are analysed and incorporated into the design. With the help of the form-independent CNC tube bending process, the data obtained is implemented in a tangible product - the backrest of the stool. Each backrest is completely individual but can still be produced in a fluid industrial workflow while still keeping production time and costs extremely low. Through the individual design of the chair backs, users are protected from restrictions and dangers that can usually be caused by the standardisation of products.
