Surround Sound

With the brief of 'Migration', music genres throughout a lifetime were explored, from childhood memories transitioning to current scenarios, leading onto the effect of white noise, a sound that aids sleep quality.

Created was a typeface, Static Regular, visually representing white noise from my perspective. The type is rigid in structure, containing no curves or smooth edges, representing the cutting sound of said noise. The type consists of purely fricatives and sonorants, 'th, z, v, s, m, n, f', the only sounds heard when listening to the audio. Headspace needed to be represented and an installation showcased this most effectively. The hanging piece rests at average head height, again, reinforcing this isolated experience, away from the surroundings.

Static regular and the installation are my responses, the research found suggests white noise is very subjective, which resulted in creating an initiative, for other creatives to respond however they envision the audio provided.
